Toddler Dance Classes in Hauppauge This Summer — Here's What to Know

Summer on Long Island means beach days, barbecues, and figuring out what to do with your kids for two months. If your little one lights up every time music comes on — spinning in the kitchen, bouncing in the grocery store, dancing in the car seat — this might be the summer to channel that energy into something structured, social, and genuinely fun. Whether you're searching for summer dance classes for kids or a toddler dance program on Long Island, we've got you covered.

Dance Xtreme is kicking off Tiny Tots Summer Dance this July — and it's going to be a blast! Built for the youngest movers in the Hauppauge area, this program welcomes dancers as young as 18 months all the way up through age 7. Whether your child has never set foot in a dance studio or they've been twirling since they could walk, there's a class that fits.

What Is Tiny Tots Summer Dance?

It's a four-week program running July 14 through August 6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at our studio in Hauppauge. Classes are grouped by age and developmental stage, so your child is always surrounded by kids at a similar level. The environment is playful and low-pressure — this isn't about perfecting technique, it's about building coordination, confidence, and a love for movement.

Small class sizes mean the instructors know every dancer by name. Parents of our youngest students (Mommy & Me) are right there in the room. For ages 2 and up, dancers are in the classroom independently — and most of them surprise their parents by how quickly they settle in.

Classes by Age

Mommy & Me — 18 Months & Under

A caregiver-and-child class centered on balance, rhythm, and the confidence to move in a studio setting. Through freeze dance, scarf play, and bubble pop games, your little one explores movement with a familiar face right beside them. No experience needed — just a willingness to wiggle. Offered Tuesdays at 10:00 AM.

Creative Dance I — Ages 2–3

Our first independent class. Young dancers build socialization skills, learn to follow directions from a teacher, and develop motor skills through play and music. Stepping stones, hoops, scarves, and rhythm sticks keep things fun and engaging while building real foundational skills. Offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 PM.

Creative Dance II — Ages 3–4

Imagination takes the lead. This class introduces storytelling into the curriculum — dancers learn basic coordination and introductory dance positions by using their imaginations, helping them understand how their bodies move through space. Offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 PM.

Ballet/Lyrical & Tap — Ages 5–7

For kids ready for more structure, we offer Ballet/Lyrical on Tuesdays at 4:00 PM and Tap on Tuesdays at 5:00 PM. These classes introduce real dance technique in a supportive, encouraging setting — building memory, discipline, and the foundations that carry into fall programs.

Jazz & Hip Hop/Acro — Ages 5–7

On Thursdays, your 5–7 year old can take Jazz at 4:00 PM or Hip Hop/Acro at 5:00 PM. These high-energy classes let kids explore popular styles while building strength, coordination, and stage presence. They're a great fit for kids who love to move but haven't tried a formal dance class before.

Pricing That Works for Summer

We know summer schedules are unpredictable — soccer camp one week, grandma's house the next. That's why we offer flexible pricing so you're not locked into anything that doesn't fit your family's plans:

  • Walk-In Class: $25 per class

  • 4-Class Package: $80 (works out to $20/class)

  • 8-Class Package: $150 (works out to $18.75/class!)

Packages don't expire during the program, and you can use them across any of the classes your child's age qualifies for. Buy a package now and decide which classes to attend as your summer takes shape.

What to Expect on Day One

If your child is in Mommy & Me, you'll be in the room the whole time — no drop-off anxiety for either of you. For Creative Dance I and up, dancers head into the studio on their own. Comfortable clothing works for Mommy & Me; for all other classes, a leotard, tights, and proper footwear (ballet and tap shoes) are recommended.

Not sure which class is the right fit? Ages are guides, not hard rules. Every child develops differently, and our team is happy to help you figure out the best starting point. You can also try a class before committing to a package.

Why Summer Is the Perfect Time to Start

There's a reason so many families use summer programs as a trial run before the fall season. The shorter commitment (four weeks instead of a full semester) takes the pressure off, and kids get a chance to experience the studio, meet instructors, and build comfort before the school-year schedule kicks in. Many of our year-round families started with a summer session — it's a low-risk way to see if dance is the right fit for your child.
